Project background: It all began when Rutland K-40 member Gary Crawshaw brought the idea of a Pub Putt project to the Rutland Kinsmen Club, which he was a member back in 1988 as a means of raising money specifically for Cystic Fibrosis. He saw the idea at a Kinsmen event he attended back east the previous year. For several years it was a major event for the club and raised very good donations. When the Rutland and Kelowna Kinsmen clubs merged a number of years back, they decided to maintain the successful project which had been run by Kin Paul Lenz for several years. In 2007, project chairperson Kin Scott McKinnon took the event to another level for the 20th Anniversary, more than doubling the funds raised, by inviting other clubs from British Columbia and Yukon to attend. Five years later, we are now about to host the 25th Annual Kelowna Kinsmen Pub Putt for Cystic Fibrosis and our goal is to have at least 25 teams and raise at least $20,000.00. Since our District Executive Mid-term meetings have been scheduled to be hosted in Kelowna the same weekend, the Kelowna Kinsmen will also be hosting a fund-raising Founder’s Night Banquet (the night before our Pub Putt). As well, the Ok Corral, a local country night-club in town has decided to host a Friday night fundraising event for the Kelowna Kinsmen Club . In essence, we are hosting three back-to-back events to d promote the Kelowna Kinsmen and to raise awareness and funds for Cystic Fibrosis. In the past 24 years, we have raised approximately $149,000 dollars for CF and have raised the profile about this dreaded disease within our community. Additionally the Kelowna Kinsmen Club has been involved with financial assistance to several people with Cystic Fibrosis in our area for life-enhancing Airway Clearance Vests, generating assistance from within the Zone and District. We have also passed along our expertise and assistance for the past 3 years with the organization of a Pub Putt in Duncan on Vancouver Island hosted by the Duncan Kinettes. So, What is the Pub Putt? A FUNdraising Event like no other!!
All teams participating in the Pub Putt are escorted by Course Marshals from the Kelowna Kinsmen Club, who has information to share with them about Cystic Fibrosis and the Kinsmen Association. This also helps the participants to educate the pub patrons as well..
Kin Canada is invited to attend! Our 25th Annual theme is “Beating Cystic Fibrosis – with TEAM SPIRIT” so your team can create your creative DREAM TEAM costume ideas!
