KELOWNA KINSMEN MIXED SLO-PITCH LEAGUE
Frequently Asked Rule Questions – Answered Clearly!
1. Match Plus 1 Home Run Rule
Since we play at a complex with outfield fences, a team can have only 1 more “over the fence” home run than their opponents.
Any “over the fence” home run that exceeds this limit is an out.
This is an SPN rule, and since we are governed by and pay SPN Insurance, the rule will stand.
2. Tagging Out A Runner
Runners can be tagged out between the commitment line and the scoring line.
This simply means that the catcher, or any player on the fielding team, has the option to tag the runner or, with control of the ball, tag home plate only.
IMPORTANT: The Strike Mat is not considered in play in this instance.
3. Maximum Number of Runs Per Inning
A maximum of 7 (seven) runs can be scored by the batting team in each inning, with the 7th inning only being an “open” inning. In this inning only, the team at bat may score as many runs as possible prior to their 3rd out.
4. Wearing Jewelry
Players are reminded that there will be no wearing of jewelry during any games this year.
This is a safety issue as well as an SPN rule.
5. Mercy Rule
The Mercy Rule will be in effect after the 5th inning if a team is up by more than 10 or more runs.
6. Game Balls
Maximum acceptable balls agreed upon for use this year are core 44 balls.
The home team will be responsible to supply the game balls for each game in “NEW” or “LIKE NEW” condition.
7. Triple Walled Bats – Titanium Bats – Altered or Tampered Bats
Triple walled bats or titanium bats cannot be used in this league. SPN also states titanium bats are illegal and are not approved for play in SPN Leagues. Tampered bats are illegal according to SPN.
Teams found to be using any of these bats will be asked to remove the offending bat from the game. If the team refuses to remove the questionable bat from play, the game will be forfeited by that team.
This is a safety issue and therefore will be enforced to the best of our ability.
8. Number of Players Needed To Play
Teams may play with a minimum of 9 (nine) players with NO AUTOMATIC OUT.
Of those 9 (nine) players on the field, a minimum of 4 (four) must be female.
9. Batting Orders
As per Rule 7 sec.1, any batting order over 10 (ten) batters must have equal numbers of male and female batters.
This simply means that teams can bat 9 or 10 or 12 batters but may not bat 11 or 13 batters.
If a player in a batting order over 10 players is injured or removed from the game and no substitute of the same sex is available, an out will be recorded each time the player is due up.
10. Alcohol
As per City Bylaws, there will be NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL permitted in the Mission Sports Fields Facility by any team or individual players during any games by any teams during this season.
The City and this league is also requesting that teams and their players refrain from sitting in the parking lot consuming alcohol after games.
We have been advised that the R.C.M.P. may patrol the parking lots and may set up roadblocks outside the Mission Sports Fields Facility.
11. Pets In The Mission Sports Fields Facility
We have been asked by The City to notify Teams, Players and Fans that pets are NOT PERMITTED in the Mission Sports Field Facility. By-Law Enforcement Officers may conduct random patrols of the Facility and may issue tickets to offenders. The City has stated that they will be posting more signs at The Facility stating pets are not welcome.
12. Reporting Scores
Again this year, to assist the League in setting up a better, fairer and more equitable year-end tournament, we are requesting that all game scores are reported within 48 hours.
To avoid problems, the winning team is responsible for reporting the game score.
Report scores to 870-3900 and leave a message or e-mail the score to:
softballleague@kelownakinsmen.com.
Please report your team name, team played, league night and score of the game clearly.
To make this effort worthwhile, we have implemented the following point scoring system that will be in effect for the season:
2 POINTS awarded for a WIN
O POINTS for a loss
O POINTS will be awarded for scores that are not e-mailed or called in.
This simply means that a winning team will receive as much 2 points for a win, or could receive 0 points for a win for not calling in the game score.
13. Walking A Male Batter
See the attached sheet regarding situations arising from walking a male batter with a female batter on deck, and the applicable ruling.
Teams are expected to follow the rulings on this attached sheet.
LEAGUE DISCLAIMER !!
The Kinsmen Mission Slo-Pitch League wants each team in the league to understand that these rules pertain strictly to this league for the 2006 season. It is not our intention to think of these rules as a deterrent to having fun, but simply to put each team on the “same page” when it comes to interpreting the rules. We encourage each team to have as much fun as they can but to be careful and play safe. Please refer to the 2006 SPN Rule Book that was distributed to each team regarding any questions not specifically dealt with here.
